Louie Michot

Louis Michot is best known as the fiddle player and lead-singer for the Grammy award winning Lost Bayou Ramblers, but his passion for Louisiana French and local folklore, and sustainability in the fastest disappearing landmass in the world are what fuels his career as a musician. With two Grammy awards, 6 film scores and over 20 LPs under his belt, his music career continues to push the boundaries of the Louisiana French music traditions.

A string of honors and high-profile projects cemented Louis Michot’s impact on both local and international stages. In 2012, Louis’ violin and vocal work were featured in the Oscar-nominated film Beasts of the Southern Wild, and that same year the Lost Bayou Ramblers’ sixth release, Mammoth Waltz, was named the second most important Louisiana album of the 21st century by nola.com and won New Orleans’ Best of the Beat Award. 2017 brought the band their first Grammy for their eighth LP, Kalenda. In 2019, they celebrated their 20th anniversary with the release of a live album, Asteur, and the international airing of the documentary On Va Continuer on TV5 Monde. That same year, they were named Entertainers of the Year by New Orleans’ Big Easy Awards. In 2020, Louis and his brother Andre were honored as Louisianians of the Year.

In 2021, Louis faced a year of unique challenges — from restarting live performances during the pandemic to spearheading hurricane relief efforts in the aftermath of Hurricane Ida. His work raising funds to provide solar generators and panels for residents of Terrebonne Parish was highlighted in Rolling Stone (“Can This Cajun-Punk Musician Protect His Culture From Climate Change?”, September 16, 2021) and The New Yorker (“The Lost Bayou Ramblers Get Lit”, January 3, 2022). The following year, he began tracking original solo material aboard his dry-docked houseboat, “Sister Ray,” completing the recordings at Mark Bingham’s Piety Studio with engineering and mixing by Kirkland Middleton.

2024 kicked off on a high note with Lost Bayou Ramblers earning their second Grammy for their collaboration with the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra on Live: Orpheum Theater NOLA. Meanwhile, Louis Michot received six nominations in New Orleans’ Best of the Beat Awards, including Artist of the Year, Album of the Year, and Song of the Year for “Boscoyo Fleaux.” The year also began with Louis reigning as King of the Krewe of Joan of Arc, ushering in the Mardi Gras season. From there, momentum carried into the second year of performances by Louis Michot & SWAMP MAGIC—his dynamic four-piece band featuring Louis on fiddle, accordion, guitar, and vocals; Evan Ceaser on drums; Jonny Campos on pedal steel; and Bryan Webre on bass, synths, and samples.

2025 brings Louis on his first major solo tour, supporting the May 30 release of “SEAUXLEAUX”, an audio and video album recorded at Dockside Studio by Tony Daigle. The recording represents Louis’ live solo shows, a dynamic performance featuring guitar, fiddle, voice, and an effected-samples stomp box, with a collection of songs that tells his stories and those of the Louisiana French experience. Join us at Magnetic Studios for Louis Michot’s special solo performance.
